How to prevent inkjet cartridges from drying out?

Things dry fast in Nevada. I've been using an HP DesignJet755CM
plotter since last fall. I don't print daily, infact only about 1-2
times per month on average. To keep the cartridges fresh, I tried
doing some small print outs about twice a week. This extended the
average life of a cartridge from about 2 weeks to about 3 (and ink
still 90+% full). I've had better luck storing them in a zip-lock
freezer bag with most of the air removed and cleaning them with cotton
swabs and high-grade (99%) rubbing alcohol. With this I've gotten
them to last a couple months and sometimes I can use a whole 25% of
the ink before they get too clogged to use. That leaves 75% going to
waste!

Any ideas on how I can extend them longer?

Thanks,
-Eric

I keep a couple of refilled cartridges waiting to be used in a plastic bag
that is NOT sealed. I place the cartridge/bag along with a slightly
dampened piece if cloth in a TupperWare container with a good seal.

I keep the cartridges in an unsealed plastic bag so that moisture in the
TupperWare container doesn't condense of the cartridges. I've kept them in
there for several months while waiting to be used.

on hand for use when the one installed in the printer are empty.

If the plotter is in an area where air currents exist,
perhaps you can reduce the amount of air currents in
the cartridge area of the plotter. Drape a dust cover
over the plotter mechanism and if you don't lose carts,
then that will be a stopgap solution.
