I've had my 740 for two years now. No clogging problems yet.

Hi, The Epson Commandments 1. Epsons should be run on the average of once a week to avoid any traces of head clogging. --<snip>--

I don't print a whole lot with inkjets any more, but I wouldn't
buy the 840. Make sure you know what you get with the HP 840.
Um, what?
It can only use the half filled cartridges.
I got tired of my Epson Stylus Photo clogging. I tried every, and I mean
every, head cleaning tip in this news group and others. All I accomplished was
consuming a huge quantity of ink with no unclogiing of my black head. Then,
the color heads stopped printing!! ARGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
Can't bring myself to throw the printer out--currently unsing it as a doorstop.
You folks swithching to the 870/1270 have a real treat instore--clogged heads
and orange shift!!!
I switched to a Canon BJC 8200--where have you been all of my life?? Six
individual ink tanks (wow) and NO FU$%ING clogs! I know you Epson devotees
will try to tell me that that Canon prints fade and that the Epsons produce
better photos, but, guess what? All photos ultimately fade! And I will put my
Canon prints printed on Canon Photo Pro Glossy up against any Epson print!
I think people who stick with Epsons are essentially masochists!!
A kiss on the hand might be quite continental, but tactical nuclear weapons are
a boy's best friend.

4. If using a compatible cartridge the ink should be of a reliable quality that approaches Epson's.

If using a compatible cartridge the ink should be of a reliable quality that approaches Epson's.Hi Jan . .I've found that after refilling cartridges 3 times its necessary to buy genuine Epson's to get rid of the 'clogging up'So, from yr experience, whats a RELIABLE quality ink for Epson nowadays with so many 'compatibles' on the market (UK sources if poss.) ??Regards Jim
Just my 2p worth, over the years Iv'e had the epson 600, epson photo and now the 1270, I have only ever used epson cartridges and have never suffered a blocked head , well not on a printer anywayPH

I have been using the Piezo technology based color printers since they
introduced the 600/800 Color Stylus printers many years ago. I have at home a
old 800 that never gets used maybe one a month and has never clogged. I have
used at work all the various photo printers from the 700, 750/1200, 870/1270 and
the 9000P. Only one printer (700 Photo) showed a clog that was immediately
cleaned w/ one cleaning cycle. So in my experience not all Epson printers get
clogged. The longest unused Epson printer I personally "saw" print from extended
inactivity was a 600 Color Stylus that had been put up in a closet for 7 months
which was donated to our local private school, it didn't require no extra head
cleaning after it started up and to date that 6 year old printer has never
clogged. It is about as reliable to ask do all marriages end in divorces
nowadays. Everyone has different experiences.

I have had a Epson 740 for two years. Never had a clog. I use only
Epson Ink, BTW.
