Are you saying the Ipson Stylus will print directly onto the CD? or to a CD
label? Won't all printers print to CD labels?

It prints directly on the CD. In the US it is the 960.

That's pretty good. Some of the labels seem to choke CD drives.

I saw one a couple weeks ago at the MacWorld expo. The quality was
absolutely stunning. My wife wants one based on the photo quality it
can produce (she'll be upgrading from her current Epson C82), and the
fact that it can also print DVDs directly is just a side benefit (which
I expect to use a lot).

Yes. In fact they were giving away free printed CDs (nothing was burned
on them) as samples to walk away with.

The rep said that the carrier for the CD was just released that week
(this was two weeks ago). She said some printers do not have them in the
box, but those will have a coupon to mail in to get the carrier. All
printers shipped from the factory from that week forward will have the
carrier in the box.

For the 17th or so time, YES!

It's cheap, and for direct printing to a CD/DVD, it's about the only
game in town short of $1000. If you want this abiity, go buy one...

First, no binaries to this group. Second, I didn't take one myself. I
looked at it, saw it was good, and saw no reason to add one more piece
of plastic to my home garbage can.

Well its about bloody time consumers in North America get a printer
that can do this. Thank you Epson for finally coming to your senses.
And now maybe Canon will feel the pressure to do so as well.

So just what type of discs are deemed to be "printable CDs or DVDs"?

Yes, and I do try to help here whenever possible. In this case though,
the same question was being asked repeatedly, and I repeatedly gave the
same resounding endorsement of the product. As I said earlier in the
thread, I don't have one so I can't give any details, but I saw one at
MacWorld and was highly impressed. Similarly my wife saw one at a local
computer store and was wowed by it. I really have nothing else to add,
and repeating the same question will not result in a different answer.

With a printer this cheap that looks this good, and particularly with it
being the only game in town (no other low cost inkjet prints CDs
directly to my knowledge), I'd just buy it and see for myself.

If you have access to the Japanese Epson PM-970C or UK equivalents, it
can print directly to any CD-R.

Also, if Canon does not remove the feature, the upcoming Canon 950, at
least in Japan, also has direct to CD-R print capability. It should be
out this quarter worldwide.

Casio Japan has a thermal printer that'll print directly to CD-Rs as well.

--

Many custom modified units do exist, but given that hopefully Epson or
Canon will have released a CD-R capable printer this quarter, I'd wait
for these.

the 2100 (2200 in the US I think) also prints to CD/DVD media, and has
higher printing capabilities (better inks and A3 support).

May or may not be worth the extra to you. Was for me (and you can't get the
950 here in Australia)

That print directly to CDs? What other ones are there with that ability
that are available in the US? (regardless I was _very_ impressed with
the 960 output on both paper and CDs)

Oh... I just noticed in your email address that you are from the UK. I
guess the US limitation may not be an issue for you. :-)

Four separate messages from you asked:

1) im looking for a printer to print onto "inkjet" cdr's

2) I was hoping to get an opinion of quality ?

3) did you see it print a cd ?

4) The quality was good ? profesional looking etc ?

It was #4 to which I I was short with you, as I had already said that
mutliple times...

Hi Burt,

Yes I know which 4 questions I asked , I meerly wanted an opinion, as I said
b4 thats what ng's are all about ,

Nevertheless lets agree to disagree and move on shall we ?

Epson do 2 printers that proint onto CD 950 ( 960 there I think & 970 in
Japan ) and here the 2100 ( a3 size )

also look here
http://shop.cd-writer.com/acatalog/ALL_PRODUCTS_RECOMMENDED_PRINTERS_170.htm
l

and http://www.cd-rcopier.com/

theres a reasonable collection there and also if you search for "cd printers
" in the UK I get loads of lonks , none proprietry brands but lots to look
at ., I just this morning received a sample from the matise gold which was
great , I have ordered an epson sample so hopefully I shall get that soon ,
then decide .

Kind regards

Jules

"Inkjet printable" is not a description I recall seeing on any CD
spools nor any advertising in this regard. Do you know of any brand
examples of inkjet printable CDs? I would imagine having an all white
surface would be an advantage but perhaps there's also a special
coating that needs to be present? Thanks.
