I recently bought a #45 cartridge (for $3.99 =P) from Goodwill (a thrift
shop) with an expiration date on the box of Nov. 2002. I was printing
labels, when the black started turning grayish (the printer driver said it
was out of ink a couple weeks ago) so I changed it. When I looked at the
bottom of the cartidge, it said "20030604" -- which I assume means June 4th,
2003. I also have two cartridges from Costco, with expiration dates of Feb.
2003. I didn't want to use what I thought was a newer cartridge, so I
opened one of those. They have expiration dates of "20030805" -- which I
assume means August 5th, 2003. Is there a reason why the dates are off by
6+ months? I'm just curious...

Thanks :)

Date on box is install by date, from then on another 6 months to go
In the past HP only gave 6 moths in the printer waranty, installing it
beyond the date on the box would cut your 6 moths of waranty short
