My CD installs fine (seemingly), but I do not get in the results (1)
the 'HP PSC 900 Director' (which of course provides for scanning,
faxes, etc) and (2) the 'HP Photo Printing' (to print pics).
Thinking my CD disk may be faulty, I downloaded and
'installedb4p_enu_xp.exe' from the HP web site. Got the same
results.
I re-tried both, using the rather quirky instructions provided on the
HP web site. Got the same results. The only thing that I do notice
(which may be significant) is that during the final phase of the
installation, I do not get the usual 'PnP new hardware found' scenario
(Yes, PnP is enabled in my BIOS).
I have just re-tried the same installation on a second machine, and it
works just fine. I get fully correct results.
I am using XP PRO SP2.
Any suggestions?

Try the following: unplug the usb cable for the device, then run the uninstall
as shown at
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpu05007#N10226,
then reboot. Now run the installation and plug the PSC 950 in when instructed
to do so. It may help to temporarily turn off the XP/SP2 firewall for the
installation.
