Is it a Unix-clone (albeit spelled backwards)? Does it have more support
and is more modern than, say, Minix?

Xinu Is Not Unix!

It is a small multi-tasking kernel of Unix style functions to which
you can link additional functions and applications. It is suitable for
embedded projects or dedicated headless computers where external
events trigger specific reactions.

It has been ported to a handful of processors, but active development
and support was terminated about five years ago. The textbooks are out
of print and most of the web sites and archives have dissapeared from
the Internet.
