<noob warning>

I've got this Dy4 VME-179 board here and can't seem to interrupt the
boot-up to get to the VxWorks boot prompt so I can make some changes.
Instead, it just automatically boots using the kernel in flash and I get
the normal ( -> ) VxWorks prompt. Isn't there supposed to be a "7-second
countdown" or something, where I can press the "any key" and get the boot
prompt?

Anyone have any idea what I'm screwing up here?

thanks,
nate

What is the setting of the (f)lags for the boot-line? Maybe the
auto-boot flag
is set or is it a ROM-RESIDENT image? If it is the flag, you may have to
consider
if using the BootLine routines or sysNvRamSet can help you clear this. These
are
WAGs, so maybe a snippet of your boot-up if it shows the bootline (remove
the
IP settings and password for security concerns). HTH....

The delay you're referring to is in the bootrom: it has an
option to wait a little before booting an image. There are
flags you can set to stop that, so maybe that's what is
going on with your board.

I suppose whoever made a bootrom could've modified it to not
accept such options...

Try hitting some key on the keyboard as soon as you turn it
on, many times. I think bootrom will delay for something
very small (close to a second?) even if flags say 'no delay'

Instead, send to [p-o-s-t-i-n-g|o-v-e-r-w-h-e-l-m|n-e-t]
(remove dashes, replace the first vertical bar with @,
and second with a dot). Sorry for any inconvenience.

Could be that its a standalone vxWorks image in Flash, e.g. vxWorks.st_rom,
and not a bootrom. This would boot straight to the -> prompt as you are
seeing. If you just want access to the boot parameters to change IP
addresses or something, you should be able to use the bootChange() function
at the shell prompt.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Craig
