Hi.

Just wanted to see if someone has used or is using the terminal
emulator called SecureCRT against VMS systems.

https://www.vandyke.com/products/securecrt/index.html

I juts installed the 30 day try-out kit and directly saw that
our double hight text in our WELCOME.TXT does not work.

And another thing is that I have not found out if this one
supports the 7-bit Swedish/Finish ASCII setup.
Where "[", "]" and some other chars are replaced with åäöÅÄÖ.

So, if anyone has any experienses to share with this one...

We are currenty using Attachmate Extra (now Micro Focus) but
are just investigating alternatives...

I do not need examples of *other* emulators, my questions are
specifically about SecureCRT...

Regards,
Jan-Erik.

For this, you need to look for ISO-646 support. More specifically
ISO-646-SE, but if there is support for any ISO-646, then I think you
would probably be good. Might also be called NRC (national replacement
characters). Might at least help in order to search for support in
documentation...

Hi. Found the 7-bit support by trying some of the settings.
It was called "IA5 Svenskt".

IA5 is mentioned here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T.50_(standard).
But yes, ISO-646 is probably what most refers to today.

I have some other issues with F-key codes and an application
where this doesn't work correctly. Can be that this application
is adjusted to the special setup and key redefinition that has
been done in the current Attachemate Extra in use...

I use SecureCRT all the time and have been a happy customer for many
years.

I ran vttest <https://invisible-island.net/vttest/> on it and double
width and double height characters passed the test just fine.

Maybe see if you can build and run vttest.

I have not yet run vttest, but I did get the double high/width
text to work, if I selected the font called "VT100". But that font
as such does not look particular nice... By using "Consolas" as an
example, double high is discplayed as two duplicate standard lines.

That's what it would look like a non-VT100 terminal

I've been happily using it for about 6-7 years now. It's not perfect, but
it's about the best solution I've been able to find for my Mac.

As it's not perfect, I do have a VT420 sitting next to my desk for when I
need it. That's mainly due to keyboard emulation. Though I seem to have an
additional problem, in that I don't seem to be able to get LAT working on
OpenVMS/x86.
