Hello All,

Could some one please help me in downloading the kits for HP ACMS for OpenVMS? I have the hobyist license for the same, however I'm not able to download the kits from HP website. I want to try installing that on my Personal alpha on my PC and try a few things.

Regards,
Joe

HP traditionally doesn't publish open-access downloads of their
software products. Ask the HP folks that sent you the hobbyist PAKs
for a kit.

Lately, hobbyist pak emails have included a note that a few packages
are available upon request. The fellow who sends the paks will email
you ftp info on condition of non-redistribution. There are separate
sites for vax, alpha and ia64 kits.

You did say open, which I suppose this isn't given needing to ask
for host/user/pw details, but HP has tried to address the issue of
hobbyist access to install kits at least a little.

Were they available for hobbyist download or did you get the kits from other
sources? I'm looking for Alpha ACMS and DECforms kits. I received an
e-mail from John Egolf with the details needed to access the kits available
for hobbyist download, but I didn't see ACMS or DECforms among the available
kits. I replied to that e-mail and asked if ACMS and DECforms could be made
available for hobbyist download but didn't receive a reply.

I have a couple of older Alpha layered product sets. I don't mind using
older versions, but I only have OpenVMS 8.3 and 8.4 install media. The
layered product sets I have are a bit too old to use with those versions. I
have OpenVMS 7.1-1H2 install media on its way to me, which might be close
enough for the layered product sets I have. If I'm able to use that version
with the layered product sets I have, does anyone know where I can find
suitable versions of Oracle Rdb, CDD, etc., for the Alpha? I suspect the
oldest versions available for download on Oracle's site are a bit too new.

For those that don't have the message archives handy, here is the text
of my previous reply from the earlier incarnation of this thread:

"HP traditionally doesn't publish open-access downloads of their

That's the official path. I'd expect to potentially wait at least a
few days, particularly if there's a weekend and/or an ice storm
involved.

ACMS and DECforms are not typical hobbyist fodder, so the HP folks
might also be contemplating exactly what you're up to here.

Right.

Right. I've never used ACMS, but have used DECforms a tiny bit (but not
as a hobbyist). I can see some hobbyists wanting to use DECforms.

It's only been five days. I figured I'd explore other options while waiting
for a reply in case they say they can't be made available for hobbyist
download.

It's just for personal curiosity. I work as an IBM mainframe operator and
have developed a fondness for CICS, and TP systems in general. Sadly IBM
doesn't have a hobbyist program. I'd love to be able to run CICS at home.
Since there is an OpenVMS hobbyist program, for which I'm grateful, I
figured I'd learn a little about the TP software available for OpenVMS.
I've dabbled a bit with the VAX version of ACMS, both on a VAXstation 3100
M76 and under SIMH, though I never got very far with it. That was several
years ago, and I've forgotten the little I learned. I acquired an Alpha
server a while back so I'd like to set up the Alpha version on it and start
learning again.
