I want to confirm that on VMS 5.5-2, the maximum disk size is 2.1gb.
I understand that you can have a volume set larger. We are
consolidating a cluster and am trying to make the footprint as small as
possible so that is why we are interested in individual maximum disk
size.
TIA,

FILE5. What is the largest disk volume size OpenVMS can access?
One Terabyte (2**31 blocks of 2**9 bytes). Prior to the release of V6.0,
the
OpenVMS file system was limited to disk volumes of 8.5 GB (2**24 blocks) or
less.
On some systems, there are restrictions in the console program that limit
the
size of the OpenVMS system disk. Note that data disks are not affected by
console program limits. For example, all members of the VAXstation 3100
series are limited to a system disk to 1.073 GB or less due to the console,
though larger data disks are possible.

and so on...

Larger disks can be used if you can find a way (like allocating
a contiguous file at the top end) to fill the rest.
There is a 1+ GB limit on how large the boot disk can be on some
VAXen (notably VS3100) but data disks can be larger.

2.1GB? Never heard of that limit. Please see the OpenVMS FAQ for
details on the disk size limits. If you have questions on what is
in the FAQ, then folks will need rather more information on the disk
and on the particular system(s) and such...
