[OT] HP JetDirect question

card (J3113A) for an HP 2100 Laserjet.
Now this laserjet 2100 serves as a printer for my primary VMS system,
so there is a faint connection....
The 600N is a second hand unit and has an existing ip address on it
(172.28.155.241/24). If I telnet to that address on port 9100 then the
printer prints the text I typed in. So the interface is basically
correct.
However the web interface doesn't allow me to change the IP
attributes. The error message in the browser is "device not
connected". I suspect an SNMP or security attribute was set to prevent
ordinary users to modify its set up.
Is there a way to reset the card to factory default values?

Did your "second hand" device come with a CDROM? It has been at least
eight years since I installed a JetDirect card in my LaserJet 4000.
AIRC that CDROM contained software with a "click and drool" interface
for configuring the printer/JetDirect card. The disk has a "Unix"
directory under which are the directories for various flavors of Unix.
The printer serves my PC and my wife's PC, my Alphastation 200, three
Solaris/SPARC boxes and a Linux system.
If you don't have the software, you could try to buy a disk from HP or
maybe you can borrow one somewhere.

Says to power off the printer, hold the Go button and power on ... release the Go button when the Attention light comes on.
Should be factory default after that.

I tried the HP search engine on various combinations of "HP", "2100",
"600N" and "J3113A" without luck.

Anyway, the device came without a cdrom. The HP 2100 printer was given
to me, without documentation.
I fugured out how to print the configuration of the printer and
jetdirect card.
The only configuration tool available was a brrowser interface based
on Java. Very, very slow.

Second hand is correct. "Pre-owned" will be understood but will sound
more than a little strange to a native speaker. "Pre-owned" is an
attempt to "solve" a problem that most people just ignore. It's an
expression that a "Used Car Dealer" might use.

I remembered the term from a lease company that tended to use "pre
owned" or something similar to avoid the term second hand.
A classic example of salesman BS, like "an honest car". When used in a
used car lot, make sure you aim for the gate immediately ;-)

Ehh, dont remember exact but it should have been hp, jetdirect and
factorydefault or factoryreset (well not that one, but along those
lines)... Jeez, that was this morning... can´t remember everything ;)

Yes, it did. The HP 2100 is an old printer, it doesn't have a display
at all just two buttons.
Mine has the older firmware so I followed the appropriate instructions
and the card cleared its contents.
The printer lost its serial no in this process too but that doesn't
matter. The printer is now configured
with an IP address and VMS can print to it. My XP system as yet
can't ;-)

timeout parameter to 0 (somwhere in the OVMS settings) to avoid
locking up the printer after OVMS had finished.

I'm reasonably certain that the serial number is marked on the printer
somewhere and somehow!

On early JetDirect cards, we had to set that in the card. It didn't
matter which system it came from.

"pre-owned" is marketing speak ;-)
Although it is often used by companies who will refurbish or at least
set the equipment back to factory defaults, test, and maybe supply a
warranty etc.

Second had is definitely the correct phrase here.
