If you do a search on the parts you want on alta-vista or google, you'll
likely find quite a few places that will sell you those parts.
Shop around. Prices vary greatly.
For some machines, it can be much cheaper to buy a used machine for parts
rather than to pay HP for maintenance.

There are lots of places that advertise parts, although 7000-series
parts are getting harder to find. Note that *advertising* is
different from *in stock*. I have a couple of dealers I trust.
Again, I'd recommend CHARON-VAX. And not just because I sell it...

Oh, come on, are you saying that some PC can match a 7000 class SMP
system (say 6 processors, 4 gig of RAM, 4 UltraSCSI and 100 meg ethernet
plus twin CI and FDDI ?

Depends on how their system is used. If it's loafing along at 10%
CPU, should be fairly simple. If it's pegged at 600%, I'll have to
wait a little while for Moore's Law to catch up.
Perhaps I should have said "could" instead of "should". Certainly, a
careful sizing of the PC system, followed by a through proof-of-
concept project, should be performed.
But it's worth a look, don't you agree?

times over the past five years, prior to moving completely to
CHARON-VAX. In all candor, I'm glad they wouldn't negotiate because I
would feel it was money wasted today, now that I have CHARON-VAX...

FWIW, I have 7.3 installed on another emulator on a P3 500MHz and I ran the
PL/I
benchmark tests and it compared to a 4000/90. Now I am curious what it
would do
on a quad Opteron Tyan.

Can't answer that as I only have a P4/HT @ 3.4Ghz and a Dual Athlon
MP2800+ system. The first rates at about 63 VUPS, the second at about
53 VUPS. Do you have the pseudo-VUP calculator CALCULATE_VUPS.COM to
run on your box?
