WANTED: Research Programmer for operating system research project at OGI

The Synthetix project is extending its research in the area of
specialization of operating systems into operating system
survivability. We are interested in hiring an additional staff member
to help us pursue this research.

The position of research programmer is open from October 1996 for a
period of up to three years. Desirable qualifications for this
position include a Masters degree in computer science or a relevant
related area and extensive practical experience in one or more of the
following areas: operating system kernel design and implementation,
operating system security, and runtime code generation. Depending on
the candidate's skills, specific duties will include one or more of the
following: using the Synthetix specialization tools to harden operating
systems against binary attacks, the development of tools to enhance
system survivability in the event of a security breach, and development
of adaptive response technology to provide a specific response to a
particular attack. Strong C and Unix skills are essential, and kernel
development skills are desirable.

Project principal investigators are Calton Pu, Jonathan Walpole, and
Andrew Black of the Oregon Graduate Institute, Charles Consel of the
University of Rennes, and John McHugh and Tom Schubert of Portland
State University. In addition to ARPA support, the project also has a
very active collaboration with industrial partners. Details of the
Synthetix project can be found in the following web pages:
