[9fans] htmlroff character problem

i'm getting this error with htmlroff:

htmlroff: x.ms:16: unknown char \(rg

i'm temped to add it to the trinit[] table,
though it looks like i could also put it in
/sys/lib/troff/font/devutf/utfmap.

does anyone know the right fix?
