4OS2 and Extended Attributes

I restored a backup from tape to a machine other than the one from which
the backup was made, then used 4OS2's COPY command (with parameters /s
/a:) to copy everything across the LAN to the boot drive of the original
machine -- while that original machine was booted to a maintenance
partition.

The original machine booted but reported that the desktop could not be
found.
I then ZIPped the restored files on the machine to which they had been
restored, then copied the .zip file to the original machine and UNZIPped
them there/ This time the machine booted just fine all the way to the
Desktop.
Anyone have any idea what is going on here? Does the 4OS2 COPY command
ignore or corrupt Extended Attributes?
