I know this is going to sound like a major tangent, but I ran FP15 for
years, and could never go more than 10 days without a hung WPS (clock
runs, mouse moves, but you can't do anything).
Since applying FP17, I am now at 28 days uptime, which for this box is a
record. Other boxes that see less GUI use still run reasonably well
with FP15. (I'm also running the 20031113 kernel.)
Summary: if you have access to FP17, I am ready to recommend it.

The usual places: IBM Software Choice (now Passport Advantage) or
Serenity System's eCS. Giving money to either of those entities will
allow you to download FP17, which seems to have vastly increased uptime
on this particular box.
The last free IBM OS/2 base OS FixPak was FP15, in November, 2000, I
think.

I'm pretty sure it's not available from the eCS site (not entirely
surprising, since it doesn't apply to their versions).

Right. Sorry, not thinking (again).

Wait a sec . . . I thought that I understood that all SWC (and, by
extension, PA) OS/2 reserved features are available to eCS licensees. I
realize that eCS is not based upon W4, but rather MCP, but does this
imply that FP16/FP17 aren't available via Serenity? Perhaps an eCS
licensee (or Bob St. John) can comment.

The "as delivered" copies of eCS come with the fixpacks already
applied, so you don't have to download them separately.
Fixes that arrived after eCS was released are available for download.
Actually, the best way to do the download is to use Chuck McKinniss's
fixtool for eCS, because it works out what fix level you're up to
and automatically applies the right fixpacks. A bit like the
"Retrieve software updates" that IBM used to have, but a lot
smarter in terms of figuring out prerequisites, and it also handles
things like device drivers that come from sources other than IBM.
Applying fixes is now a lot easier than it used to be in the days
of Warp 4.

Is FP17 available to eCS licensees?

Well, that's not hard to do ;)

I agree that Chuck's tool is great, if it works on your system. I am
having problems with it on my TP600E at present. I had neglected to keep
this system current for a while and had the 1.12.0 version of it
installed. When I started it I was told that an update existed, but when
I attempted to download it got "file not found" from wget so I guess I
waited too long to try to upgrade from 1.12.0 automatically.
I downloaded the 2.1.5.7 version of the tool manually and installed it
over my 1.12.0 version. When I attempt to start 2.1.5.7 it starts and
then crashes with an error complaining about one of my drives.
I have attempted to contact Chuck by e-mail and posted a bugtracker report
about this, but I have yet to receive a response. I will be keeping an
eye open for a response from Chuck or a newer release that will hopefully
address whatever it doesn't like about my system.

Nope. eCS licensees only have access to things that can apply to eCS.
Having W4FP17 available would just confuse the issue.

Why? XR_C004 (FP4) is the applicable fix for eCS/MCP/ACP so why
bother? Best I can tell, FP17 is essentially contemporary. Besides,
I doubt seriously that CSF would even allow it to be applied to eCS -
different product codes.

Maybe I've become dulled by time, but I don't see any difference worth
shouting about. The eCS maintainance program does simplify finding
(or finding out about) fixes but that's about all I see. I'm not
knocking it - it's handy - but hardly revoluyionary. Chuck has done a
nice job on it.

2.1.5.8 is available. Maybe even 2.1.5.9 by now. Check the ecs website.

There was a problem in ecsmt for many, many versions: it was unable to
install itself over an older version. Sometimes it was even unable to
see a never wersion of itself on the server. But since 2.1.9 these
problems are gone.
Whenever you have an older version you must go manually to the
download page and download ecsmt manually. And then install it
manually.
eCSMT uses since some versions WarpIN to install itself. So an
preinstalled WarpIN 1.0.1 is a prerequisite for it. You finds WPI
1.0.1 on eCS CD #2. By that: WPI has a problem with itself! It will
not dedect that it is installed when it gets not installed twice!
That means:
1. install WPI anywhere you like
2. thereafter install it over itself. This resolves the problem.
When you feels kile many other peoples do that EPM is a bit crappy (it
is definitely!): go to
http://www.netlabs.org/
and download NEPMD
It is a dream of an editor because it comes much better configured as
the one in OS/2 WARP, MCP and eCS and contains more fuctionality too.

This is a known problem. Download 2.1.5.8 or newer. You have to
install this manually because 2.1.5.7 will NOT detect it.

I had noticed this yesterday and now have tried 2.1.5.8, 2.1.5.9 and just
for good measure 2.1.4.9 as well. All of them crash in the same manner as
2.1.5.7, so I have no working version of the tool. I have entered
information on each of these in the eCS bugtracker, hopefully this will
give Chuck the information he needs to fix this problem.

I have downloaded and installed both 2.1.5.8 and 2.1.5.9 and hit the same
problem with them that I am hitting with 2.1.5.7, so I conclude that the
problem is not the known problem that has been corrected. I also
downloaded 2.1.4.9 and verified that the problem is present in that
release as well. I have posted information from all of these in the eCS
bugtracker.

You vorgot to mention which is your system? eCS 1.0? eCS 1.1? eCSMT
works dependant on the system and language on the system.
On my eCS 1.1 german
- 2.1.4.9 was working - but to able to upgrade itself
- 2.1 5.7 was working - even upgrade to 2.1.5.8 was working
- 2.1.5.8 runs well
has you downloaded ecsmtaux, ecsmtopt and ecsmtreq?
Please run chkdesk.cmd (in the directory ecsmt.exe is sitting).
Thereafter a reboot is required.
You should go to

or insert news.ecomstation.nl as new (second) server to your news

and then subscribe to

I just tried this release and got a similar error. Per your prior post I
have downloaded and placed ecsmtopt.exe and ecsmtreq.exe in my directory
with the ecsmt.exe, but I still see the error. I could not find
"ecsmtaux" on the eCS server, is there a typo in this or has it been moved
out of the directory with the numbered release?

Please read ecsmt216.txt in the directory you've installed ecsmt.
