I've looked in the SNAP documentation for a clue that it will support SXGA
(1280x1024) screen resolution, and did not find a direct answer.

I'm thinking of ordering a new Thinkpad T61 with that resolution, thinking
it will still work at XGA, (1024x768) leaving it a safer choice, the Wide
screen models.

I also figure the Intel X3100 and Nvidia chips are supported with Snap
without all the features available.

Feel free to correct me. Others probably want to know too.

Using a standard 4:3 mode on a widescreen panel display is generally never a
"safe" choice for maximum quality. Either the screen won't be used at full
size, or proportions will be distorted and detail reduced noticeably.

On those widescreen laptops I've tried in stores (naturally using windoz),
none of the desktop display mode choices offered are 4:3 modes.

I checked, and the T61 is WXGA (1280x800) using a 965G chipset. I'd be leery
of any expectations, as the latest Snap only includes up to 945G. If your
heart is set on that model, your best bet may be to ask in the groups on
news.ecomstation.nl to see if any widescreen modes are supported, and if
anyone has tried anything using the 965G.

Otherwise, try to select some model with video supported by Panorama:

I've got the impression that there are 5 different T61 versions. Two of
them are standard 4:3 XGA or SXGA models. The other three are WXGA with
different video chips and cameras.

I'll look there. Thank you.

For sure, that is listed on my SNAP setup, all the
way up to 2048x1536.

It also has a 16:9 setting, but I don't want to play
with my setup to check it out. I use 1400 x 1050 on a
R40.
