I have been away from os/2 for a while and would like to install it again on:

asus P5Q motherboard with a intel core duo
250g samsung SSD
2 250 IDE drives
1 sata DVD
1 sata burner (not working)

but when booting from the cd it won't boot, so I am trying to create a bootable
usb sd can anyone help

regards

Hi Adrian
I've not heard of anyone installing from a bootable usb sd.

I do have some questions which *may* help get the eCS install CD working:-

Which version of eCS is involved?

Are the drives and SSD IDE or SATA?

Does the system try to read from the install cd and fail or does the
system simply ignore the cd?

Regards

Pete

I have one
sata 1 250gig Samsung SSD (Sata cabble)
sata 5 Atapi cd-rom (sata cable cd)
sata 6 atapit cd-burner (sata cable burner cd)

sata configuration set to AHCI

when I boot the system seems to have problems with the drive not the disk, I had it set before as IDE and the cd booted but the install bunked out at loading the cd-rom driver tried both JJSCDROM and OS2DROM etc
the please insert disk...
when set to AHCI the crom wont boot I get
Load second code protion ... <EF:0> CD-ROM read error (drive=EF secto r=16, code10)

another thought would be to copy the files to an IDE drive and see if that works what do you think

Kind regards
adrian

The main problem is the lack of AHCI driver in eCS1.2R which means that
you will have to set the BIOS to use IDE mode.

While in the BIOS make sure that disks are set to use MBR or Legacy mode
- OS/2 systems cannot use GPT; if the BIOS is UEFI you will need to set
that to Legacy (standard BIOS) mode.

When booting from the eCS install CD you will need to experiment with
which IDE driver works best and also the Mode; Ideally you will find
that things work fine with the DANIS506 driver in "Performance" mode, if
not you will need to experiment. If that fails usually the same driver
in "Compatibility" mode will work.

Hope you get an install sorted :-)

Thanks, I downloaded the 2.2 live version, but got the same problems. However, I have managed to borrow a usb cd drive so might try using this, just waiting a new 2TB sata drive

Once again thanks

PS Might wait for blue bird to be released and et that, rather than updating to ecomstation 2.2
