Hello. I am new to the group and new to OS/2. I recently installed OS/
2 2.1 on a PS/2. Now, I'm trying to installing Warp 4 on a ThinkCentre
Pentium 4. I made 3 installation disks (Install, Disk 1, Disk 2) from
the CD to do a CD installation. When it gets to Disk 2, it always runs
into a problem. I tried reimaging the disks several times on different
floppies and on different computers. The error message is "A program
in this session encountered a problem and cannot continue." followed
by a bunch of code. I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks, Sam

You could try the boot disks here,
http://www.os2site.com/sw/upgrades/boot/index.html. While for a thinkpad
they work fine on a desktop.
Also you might try going into the BIOS and disabling all cache until
after you finish the install.

No luck. There is no BIOS setting for cache. I disabled any advanced
features I could find (power management, usb, etc.) but it is still
running into the error. It appears the SATA interface is tripping up
the IDE driver that loads with OS/2 Setup. Thanks for the advice.
Guess I'll have to use NT instead.

Replace ibms506.add with this,
http://hobbse.nmsu.du/download/pub/os2/system/drivers/storage/danis506r187.zip.
IIRC you can just rename it to ibms506.add or edit config.sys and change
ibms506.add to dan506.add (note you have to shorten the name to fit in
FAT 8.3). Of course remove ibms506.add first.
If you need more room on the floppy, delete one of the scsi drivers
(ending in .add and other with same first part) and remove it from
config.sys.

Dave,

You don't have to shorten danis506.add, it is daniatapi.flt that needs
to be cut down to daniatap.flt to fit into 8.3 names for fat formatted
floppies.

If it is necessary to remove some of the scsi drivers from the floppy
the config.sys should be edited to remove them as well - so should the
snoop.lst or there can be problems.

It loaded Daniela's bus master IDE driver, but I'm still running into
the same problem shortly after loading disk 2. It says "Loading,
please wait..." Then, I get this screen:

Daniela's Bus Master IDE Driver for OS/2 Version 1.8.7

Do you have AHCI ? OS/2 does not support that. In your BIOS you will need to choose "IDE compatible" instead of "AHCI" for your SATA controller.

Dude: it said that I need authentication. Here''s what it said:

The server http://www.os2site.com:80 requires a username and password. The server says: .tupni deeN-Need input..

Can you tell me the username and password?

Use an OS/2 browser or email the webmaster and ask for one..
If you're still looking for the updated OS/2 boot diskettes, they are
also available on the Lenovo site though not where they were recently :(
There's also https://winworldpc.com/product/os-2-warp-4/os-2-warp-452
which should give a bootable CD

Only MCP2/ACP2 Refreshed CDs (XR?C4503 with Kernel version 14.089)
include the Pentium 4 fix. So when installing Warp 4 product on a
Pentium 4 class machine depends on installation paths. For network
installations it's quite easy to bring Warp 4 to fixpak level 15.
In a stand-alone scenario I recommend using Virtual PC in companion with
UpdateCD to create an single installation cd-rom for use with real hardware.
