Just bought a Logitech First Mouse 3-Buttons (M-CAA43) to replace my
ageing 2-button ones, but I can't find a driver for it - either on the
Driver Pak CD or at http://service.ibm.com/os2ddpak/html/.

It has all sorts of fancy functions for use with Windows but I would be
happy just being able to use the middle button for double clicking.

I asked Logitech for help a week ago but have not yet received a human
reply.

Anybody have any suggestions? Would appreciate hearing them.

The mouseman+ or trackman+ (scrollms.exe) on the device driver page
supports the wheel at least, and it does seem to react to the middle
button on some software (such as Star Office

Thanks, Ken. I installed it, and it responded correctly to all the
button clicks etc in the test window. Unfortunately, the middle button
does nothing on the desktop or in FreeCell. Moreover, when I opened a
Win-OS/2 window it was quite impervious to any mouse clicks - I had to
dismiss it from the Window List. Back to the drawing board...

Thanks again. Peter

It's very nice.

I prefer amou10u.zip than scrollms.exe.

You can get this driver from;

The Warp mouse driver already support 3-buttons.
It seems no application uses it.
You can use WarpEnhancer http://www.bawue.de/~achimha/we to do the
double-click-thing for OS/2. (Does not work with all applications)

In Winos2 I use the Logitech mouse driver 6.44 for Windows (3.X).
Copy LMOUSE.DRV and LVMD.386 to \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM
Modify the \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM.INI

[boot]
mouse.drv=lmouse.drv

Thius is what I use to get three button support in OS/2 with my
Logitech FirstMouse:

DEVICE=D:\OS2\BOOT\POINTDD.SYS
DEVICE=D:\OS2\RODENT.SYS BUTTONS=3 COM=1 IRQ=4 BUFFERED
DEVICE=D:\OS2\MOUSE.SYS QSIZE=100 TYPE=RODENT$
DEVICE=D:\OS2\MDOS\VMOUSE.SYS

Unfortunately, the Logitech Win3.x mouse drivers do not support
the third mouse button.

Try the Kensington mouse driver from www.kensington.com. I've used it for
years, in Warp 3 & 4, with 3 different Logitech mice. It gives more
options than any of the other drivers I've found. If the pointer moves
too slow with this driver, add
userinput=double
to the driver statement in config.sys(undocumented switch).

Thank you, Stefan. I used the Windows 3.1 driver that came with the
mouse and it works like a charm, in Win-OS/2. Now all I need is one to
work on the desktop and in OS/2 games...

*** Error Correction *** In a previous post I reported that the mouse
wouldn't close a Windows window. My mistake. I had omitted a line in
CONFIG.SYS when I was re-arranging the entries. :-(

It doesn't work for me I'm afraid.

The ones that came with my mouse do - in Win-OS/2. See my reply to
Stefan.

Thank you, Peter, just what I was looking for. Works like a charm.

The outdated Rodent-driver had other intentions - just one of it's
functions gives a special meaning to a button.

The basic OS has a kind of support for multi-button mice: the basic
mouse driver detects any click on whatever button in contrast to win,
where the basic mouse driver just reports two buttons. API-calls can
make sense out of this - or not. Sadly, the OS didn´t make sense out of
it, though it would be easy.

There are some third-party solutions at hand (without any special
proprietary drivers). One of them is (was?) X-it from CodeSmith; check
out at:

http://www.bmtmicro.com/catalog/xit/xit.html

Another solution may be XWorkplace - but I haven't checked this one
completely.
