The attached info should answer any questions you have. So far I haven't
encountered any problems or bugs with it. And a nice little bonus, it seems to
run a lot smoother than before.
IBM WebExplorer BETA version 950331 (Last updated April 5, 1995)
----------------------------------------------------------------
This is a BETA version. Support is available only via the newsgroup:
comp.os.os2.networking.tcp-ip
This is the first BETA version since the V1.01 production code. The
BETA versions will have version labels according to the date the code
was built. Thus, version 950331 was built on March 31, 1995. The plan
is to update the BETA code every 2 to 3 weeks. Updates will be
announced using this file available using the Retrieve Software Updates
icon and by a post to the comp.os.os2.networking.tcp-ip newsgroup.
IMPORTANT: The mailto function that has been added required a change to
the TCP32DLL.DLL file which is shipped in this package. The
installation procedure does not back up your current TCP32DLL.DLL.
You should back up this file manually if you want to be able to
move back to the production level code. Refer to the contents section
below if you want to back up all the files that are going to be
replaced by the BETA installation.
The following enhancements are included in this beta:
- Mailto Support
Support was added for mailto tags. When selected, form will come up
which allows you to enter a short message which is then mailed via
SMTP to the recipient specified in the mailto tag.
- Hierarchical Display of News Reader Articles
News reader articles are now displayed as a hierarchical tree of
conversations. For example, one person posts an article, then someone
replies, then someone replies to them, and so on. This enhancement is
available when the news server supports it.
- News Posting support
The newspost tag is now imbedded in the news function. You can post
to a news group by selecting the appropriate anchor while viewing news
reader articles.
- Disable/Enable Proxy and Socks Servers Configuration
If you need to disable your proxy or socks server configuration to
communicate to a specific server, check boxes have been added so that
you do not have to re-type the name of the proxy or socks server to
reenable it.
If you are currently using Proxy or Socks, you will need to check
the enable check box in the Configure/Servers menu item.

Chris, thanks for posting this information. Next time we make a BETA update
I will post at the same time the BETA is put up on Retrieve Software Updates.
The most common problem that I see posted is the tcp32dll.52 message.
This occurs because the tcp32dll.dll needs to be replaced with this update and
is a file that is in use thus requiring a reboot.
Whenever a new package is put out on Retrieve Software Updates the
readme file is updated. This item is currently labeled "Descriptions of all
packages. Read first!!!". I'll ask that the title be updated to reflect the
date of the last update in the title.
I'll leave in the text about the beta from your post followed by the
description of the WebExplorer V1.01 package.

IBM WebExplorer version 1.01 (Last updated March 31, 1995)
----------------------------------------------------------
IBM WebExplorer is a world-wide web browser for OS/2. This program
supplies a graphically rich, interactive interface to the fascinating
world of the Internet. Users of the WebExplorer can jump from one
Internet location to another by simply selecting highlighted text or
images in the main window. The behavior is very similar to that of
"Mosaic", a popular program written by the folks at the National Center
for Supercomputing Applications in Illinois (NCSA).
The current version is 1.01. This is production level code, not beta.
Changes from WebExplorer V1.00 to V1.01:
- Fixed all known FTP problems
- Any DOS or Windows program can now be invoked as a viewer
- Input form entry fields can contain more than 32 characters
Changes from WebExplorer V.94 to V1.00:
(Note: V.95 was equivalent to V1.00)
- Increased support for viewers. Additional file types are now
supported and you can add support for other file types in your
EXPLORE.INI file.
- Added support for customized animations.
- Added option of having the current URL displayed in a window below
the toolbar. Additionally, you can use this window to access
another URL.
- Changed status area of the WebExplorer window. The status area now
displays separate status information for the document being loaded
and any associated images.
- Enhanced the multi-threaded processes. WebExplorer now retrieves
document and associated images simultaneously from the network.
- Improved codepage support. WebExplorer now correctly handles
documents with ISOLatin characters.
- Enhanced drag-n-drop support. Dragging images from WebExplorer now
stores the original image in its original format (e.g. GIF, JPEG).
- Improved performance, cacheing, and document formatting.
