small business owner wanting to put a sniffer on my LAN please help

I own a small company with 5 computers on a LAN. For certain employee
issues, I feel the need to install a sniffer. Problem is, I am not a
computer buff. I don't even know what LOS I am using. Question 1: how
do I figure out what LOS I am using? Question 2: Any advice for doing
this?
