It has been ages since I used OS/2 for *nix systems. Warp 3 and 4
where my os of choise for several years and I really liked some
applications.

With Suns Virtualbox I could run OS/2 apps on my Opensolaris
computer but there is one problem, I jave no floppy drive and OS/2
cant boot from the CD.

Any suggestions?

Whoa - that must be some old release of Warp! Everything I have since Warp 3
came on a bootable CDROM so what's the problem?

I don't have Opensolaris but on Linux I have to have two settings right when
I define the VM: the hardware virtualization (VT-x/AMD-V) set on plus the
CD mounted (I usually have to manually specify the mount) and in the boot
sequence. With an AMD 64x2 machine I can't get eCS to install but Warp 3/4
do OK.

With MCP2, there are some REALLY long pauses with no visible activity. I
thought the first few tries had failed until I just let the machine go
while I had lunch - the installation was ready to go when I got back. Same
thing on bootup - there are some long pauses about the time the video
drivers are initialized.

VirtualBox allows you to define a virtual floppy drive and point it to a
diskette image file. Not sure if you can use the diskette images on the CD in
\os2image directly or if you need to convert them (somehow!).

I am a bit confused after reading your post. My latest copy of Warp is
Version 4. It is dated 1996. It came with three install floppies to start
the CD installation. There are diskimages of these on the cd. Do you somehow
mount the first floppy?

The message I get when I try to boot from the cd in Virtualbox is:

FATAL: could not read from the boot medium! System halted.

or

FATAL: no bootable medium found! System halted.

The problem is solved. I was able to mount the installation floppy
images by making an image of the cd first.

I still have some issues but Warp 4 is installed.

Nothing happens when I try to install the Guest Additions but maybe
it is just the slow response that Will mentions. So Warp just runs in
a small window for the moment-

Still nice to see Warp up and running after all these years!

Thanks for your help.

My apologies for misleading info - I had been using manf. refresh versions I
got from DEVCON indtead of the original commercial releases and these had
the boot data on them. For future reference, a Google search for the late
90s will lead you to instructions for burning a bootable copy of the
original Warp CDs.

I still can't install eCS (2.0 betas or 1.2) on this AMD64x2 but I'll keep
trying. Like you I can't resize the OS/2 window but the guest additions do
work with the MCP2 level code (FP14 or so) to get seamless mouse/keyboard
ops. Glad you got it done.

I think you must be misremembering. Neither Warp v3 (bluebox I have) or
Warp v4 came on a bootable CDrom. At that at one time I tried to install
one of the above, IIRC v4 on a machine without a floppy using my
maintainence partition and the install program barfed. Had to set up
scripts and install with the enterprise install thingy which I forget
the name of right now :)

Hi Peter,

For the video extensions to work you need at least fix pack 4 (I
think) but you should take Warp 4 up to fp 15 and device driver 2.

Look for OS2MT (http://www.os2mt.tk) as it will find and install a lot
of the six packs for you.
