You have something against OS/2?

If you can point me to a native Mac newsreader that is as good *for
my purposes* as ProNews/2, I will happily move to it. I've checked
a bunch of Mac newsreaders and have found none anywhere near as good
*for the way I work* as ProNews/2.

I am willing to put up with the problems with OS/2 in a Parallels
VM, the principal ones being that it can't share clipboards with the
Mac and I haven't updated to anywhere near a current version of
Firefox, though I guess I could if I cared enough to go to the
trouble.

I second your though that some OS/2 applications are for my purposes
better than anything I found so far (mostly Linux).
For the shared clipboard problem, have you tried VirtualBox for OSx?

No. That one is new to me. I'll have to try it. I still have my
ECS 2.0 install CDs and backups of my old ECS native installation
including apps. I even have a CD reader, which is kind of key since
my new Mac didn't come with one.

(removed alt.usage.english)
Vbox supports virtual disks from several other platforms, such as
VMware. Maybe it supports Parallel's too, take a look at their website.
If not supported directly, there are also conversions from one format
into another. If that works, you don't need to reinstall eCS (which I
use as well). Vbox is free for non-commmercial use, it is now from
Oracle. I have used it quite a lot. To run OS/2 in a Vbox
VirtualMachine requires that the host CPU has support for
virtualization (and that it is switched on).

FYI I read your above and replied to it on alt.usage.english. As it
happens I still subscribe to c.o.o.e even though there is hardly any
traffic. Otherwise, I would have missed yours below. (When I
opened c.o.o.e, ProNews had marked your post as read, because I had
already opened it in a.u.e.)

Would you happen to know if a Mac with a 3.8 GHz Intel Core i5 would
have that capability and, if so, how to switch it on?

Sorry about that, but I did not want to clutter a.u.e .

The CPU must support it, if you know the exact processor type it will
be somewhere at least in the intel site, but just googling for it might
be faster.
If the CPU supports it, the bios/OS must support it too. I know very
little about mac configs, I'm afraid.
If you're using Parallels now, doesn't it have a monitor that will tell
you?
Else just google with the exact mac model and "virtualisation".
