I'm currently trying to organize email campaigns to several developers. I am
going about this by setting up a web page with the email addresses of the
companies that I would like to see develop for OS/2.
This should be a very easy way for everyone to let these companies know
that native OS/2 versions of their products are desired. Just stop by the
email campaign page, and look at the list of products. If you find one that
you would like to see developed for os/2, click on the provided link and
send the developer a short message requesting an os/2 version.
I would also like you to send me the names of other products that you would
like to see developed for os/2. If possible, also include a URL to the developers
homepage and/or an email address.
The products currently on the list are Netscape, RealAudio, and MathCad. Email
addresses are included, as are links to the respective web pages. A request
for an os/2 version is only a click away.
The URL of the email campaign page is:
http://www.andrews.edu/~boyko/email.html
Followups to this message will default to comp.os.os2.apps.

Great idea. I will certainly use your page. I have been doing this for a while
with Netscape and MathCad, but the more messages we send developers, the better.

Interesting advocacy idea, Greg. I would suggest you collect 'signatures'
and email a single document once a month that includes statistics calculated
in terms of, "your product sells for $100, these sigs represent $25,000 lost
sales." Now you're providing a valuable service, market research, rather
being a pest. If you collect the 'sigs' over a year, you can give them
trends, etc.
Soon, companies would be *waiting* for their monthly Boyko-Report. Project
managers would be quoting you in their monthly meetings, "Darn-it, Boyko
says we'll make a million dollars when the product comes out, why won't you
increase my development budget and give me an incentive bonus."
On the driver front, I've wondered why hardware manufacturers don't publish
the source to their drivers. People tell me that they're looking for
this or that driver. Hardware makers, just publish your DOS source (and
any design notes.) someone will convert it into an OS/2 driver.

Great! I want ID software to fix the broken sound routines in their

What I do is related to all the mailing from Borland, Corel, etc for Windows
and Mac software. I send the mailing (postage paid-free) back to them
with the letters 'OS/2' circled and trailing to the platform choice section.
Doesn't cost me a thing and it may get the message back to them. Or
they may take me off their mailing list. Both are fine my me.
I will find other packages ASAP. Thankfully, I can still use the older apps in my WIN-OS/2
session, but I WILL FIND ALTERNATIVES that run natively under OS/2, and you can bet they WON'T
be these guys, but some other companies. (I may even decide to write my own, since Warp is
such a nich platform, screw everyone else if they won't develop, just cause they 'think' the
market is in Win......

But still no multithreading? So a lot of time is wasted.

I spoke to a rep at Oracle, who said that development of Oracle
PowerObjects for OS/2 has been stopped. PowerObjects is a cross-
platform Visual Basic competitor currently available for Windows
flavors and Apple (and possibly others?). There was a $99 promo
you may have seen in the trade press recently for the Win or Mac
products.
I got from this rep an email address that I can use to send a
list of interested OS/2 users, with the hope of getting Oracle
to resume development. The rep doesn't want her mailbox
flooded, and agreed to take and pass on an aggregated list of
names and comments.
*I* don't have a personal internet account, nor a mailbox
that can handle hundreds of email messages on this subject --
but I'd like to find someone willing to gather folks' input,
or someone who can set up a web page which will collect
that information. Then we can send a summary every week or
so.
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO ME DIRECTLY
**Except**
*IF* you can help with collecting the names and comments
as outlined above, POST a note here or email me, and we'll
talk about how to set this up.

This fine individual has put up a set of forms for petitions to various
software manufacturers to let said manufacturers know that there are people
looking for native OS/2 apps.
Hope this is a help....
