On ftp-os2.nmsu.edu, in pub/uploads/ck5a188.zip, you can find new 16-
and 32-bit executables and a few docs about C-Kermit.

This is the current (as of today) release of C-Kermit 5A(188) for OS/2,
with a few small (but important) fixes. These fixes result in better
performance. Especially people using it over networked shared modems
(with LAN Manager or LAN Server) will notice an incredible speed
increase and much less CPU usage on the server (well, I like those
little typos that have so much effect ...).

My Kermit is version 5A(188) dated 23 Nov 92. Is the Kermit mentioned
above an improvement ? (In other words, should I download it or not?)

Yes, the new version is an improvement (actually, a bug fix).

It is now in both pub/os2/2.0/comm and .../all/comm.

Well, with my stand-alone machines, I have not yet noticed much difference,
but "COM1: Can't Open device..." disappears. As long as there are some
bug fixes and improvement, it is welcome whole-heartedly.

I noticed that the date shown is still 23 Nov 92 as well as the same version
number 5A(188), but I understand it's different. Why didn't you just keep
the version number but show a newer date beside the starting message?

More importantly, I strongly encourage you including Tektronix graphics
emulation. There is a CKOCK5XE.ZIP (or a similar name) in /pub/os2/all/comm,
which is a C-Kermit for PM with Tek4010/4014 emulation based on C-Kermit
version 5A(119). It was ready in '90, 16-bit code (also runnable under OS/2
1.x), and it has some bugs (when using VT102 mode in editing). The emulation
graphics is quite nice. I hope to see the same incoporated into your version
of C-Kermit, which is the newest, most authorized and most bug-free one, and
I think all us OS/2 people need a 32-bit version with the Tek emulation.
