It seems to be messing up RCONSOLE in Netware 4.01. I get
hieroglyphics instead of servers but I'm not sure if these two
issues are related..
Yes. It can, given the right set of circumstances, cause a "black hole"
effect on your network. This was pretty well documented in the trade rags
about nine months or so ago.

That shouldn't be related, no.

One or two machines SAPing might not cause a problem, but a whole LAN full
of Win95 machines SAPing can kill routing on an inter-network.
Novell noted this in their latest patch sets for NW 3.12 and 4.1. If
you're afraid of Win95 machines killing your servers, get the latest patch
set for your server.
Now, one annoying thing I did see, is Win95 SAP will show up on NetWare
4.1's console all the time. That's part of how SAP works, it's just
annoying that Novell turned on that notify feature by default in 4.1. The
best bet is just don't use SAP on the Win95 machine. If you have to use
SAP for non-Win95 clients to see it, try this:
Make sure this machine also has "Workgroup Advertising: Enabled: Preferred
Master". As the browse master role changes from machine to machine, you'll
see the annoying message on the server console. If one machine's the
preferred master, browse master will stay on that machine and no more
messages should pop up. Also, set the other machines so they have
workgroup advertsing set to "Enabled: May NOT be master". Also check to
see that everyone's Workgroup setting is the same (or if you have more than
one workgroup, see that each has one "preferred master" only.)

And yeah, I still use an Amiga at home. And next time, can you do a
better job hacking my .signature without ruining the Amiga logo on top?
