I am downloading ascii files via the serial cable on my Gateway PC. Some of
these files tend to get large. The receiving board can handle up to 19200
baud. Unfortunately, when I try to use the mode command to configure my
COM2 port for anything higher than 9600, it balks:

>mode COM2:19,8,n,1,retry=none

Function not supported on this computer

Anybody know how I can get the port to handle 19200? I'm sure the chip can
handle it because when running other programs that take control of the
serial port, I can go as high as 115,200.

I am using the DOS COPY command to send the files to the serial port. Maybe
someone knows of a better way????

Please E-mail...

DOS can only handle up to 9600. To go higher you need to access the port
directly.

If you're using DOS6.X, there's INTERLNK and INTERSRV I think.

The "mode" and "copy" commands use DOS. DOS uses the BIOS, and BIOS
(usually) only goes up to 9600. Check out "help mode" if you have a DOS
version greater than or equal to 5. You would be better of by using a
small (interrupt driven) term program and either using an ASCII transfer or
cut and paste.

Look into the fossil drivers available on SimTel and its clones. I'm
pretty sure it lets you set higher baud rates.

As far as the copy, I'd use a communications program like Procomm or Telix
which would eliminate the need for the mode function.

A program to do this is available from SimTel's primary mirror site
OAK.Oakland.Edu (141.210.10.117) and its mirrors.

Directory SimTel/msdos/io_util/

The index, with descriptions, of all files in the MS-DOS collection on
SimTel, the Coast to Coast Software Repository (tm), is available in two
formats:

Directory SimTel/msdos/filedocs/ on OAK.Oakland.Edu

simindex.zip Comma-delim list of all MSDOS files w/descrip.
simlist.zip Text format list of all MSDOS files w/descrip.

These files are updated every 7-10 days. See aaaread.me in that
directory for details.

This program is highly recommended for viewing and searching the index:
