How to change the font colour in Msdos whenever I go from command
prompt in window environment? Do I need to put any command line in
autoexec.bat file?

Try this example with bold white text on a cyan background.
If you have installed ansi.sys via your config.sys file,
Place these lines in autoexec.bat:

@ECHO ON
@PROMPT $_$e[1;37;46m$p$g
CLS
@ECHO OFF
ECHO.

to download any file of the above

Where can I find (& learn more about) this ansi.sys? Sorry, but I'm
new to all this. After Win & OS/2 I'm just starting to appreciate how
much lil ole dos can still do. Eager to learn more. This groups is

Indeed. I have been using DOS for years and I
have not reached the limits of what it can do.

If you are using DOS 5 or 6, try typing
HELP ANSI.SYS at the DOS prompt.

I have found that my local public library has many
very good books on DOS. If there is a public
library where you live, I would recommend you
check out what they have.

ANSI.SYS con be found in the MS-DOS distribution disk. Last one was MS-DOS 8 in the Windows Millennium CD, for example. Oen with 7zip Windows free utility the BASE2.CAB in the CD \winme (or something like that,I don't remember folder name exactly now) folder, dearch for ansy.sys and copy it out of the CABinet file.

I'm pretty sure Windows ME still includes ANSI.SYS.

Use the PROMPT command or environment variable to specify the ANSI escape
character for changing the prompt text color. Make sure the ANSI.SYS is
already loaded. Bee below for the ANSI escape characters.
