Hello,

I installed a (Lite-On) IDE - CDROM and adjusted autoexec.bat and
config.sys "as usual" to
...
c:\dos\mscdex.exe /d:mscd000
...
resp.
...
device=c:\dos\mscdex.exe /d:mscd000
...

If DOS boots with this entrys, it hangs itself.
MSCDEX ist in existance in the path above.
I tried also with the /M and /V Parameter and changed the /D: Parameter
but no effects.
The BIOS detects the CD Drive properly as Primary Slave.

Any Ideas?

Thank You
Achim

Which MSCDEX version? 2.23, 2.25?
what about using /D:CDROMDRV instead of lower-case device name.

MSCDEX.EXE does not belong in the CONFIG.SYS !!!!!!
You need to put your CD-ROM driver in here, something like the
OAKCDROM.SYS from the Windows Bootdisk or whatever driver is supplied
for your drive!!!!

MSCDEX.EXE is not a device driver and should not be
installed via the DEVICE= directive. If you really want
to load it during CONFIG.SYS processing, you can use
the INSTALL= directive, but the normal method is to load
it in AUTOEXEC.BAT, possibly using the LOADHIGH or
LH command.

What you do need to load via the DEVICE= is a low-level
driver for your CD-ROM drive, which is not named MSCDEX
but something else, probably ending in .SYS. For example,

DEVICE=C:\BIN\DRV\MTMCDAI.SYS /D:MSCD000

to load the driver for a Mitsumi ATAPI CD-ROM drive which
happens to be in C:\BIN\DRV
