PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, does anyone know of a utility that can read/write/format Amiga disks on a PC. I know about Messydos on the
Amiga, for MS-DOS and ST format disks, but it would be more useful to
be able to access Amiga disks on a PC.

Also, does anyone know more about the Amiga emulator for the PC, cause
I've got a PC, and it would mean I could flog my Amiga.

This is something thas has been discussed at length in the amiga groups,
where techies stated that it can't be done, seems the drive is just not
flexible enough.

NO, and if I did, I wouldn't get into it in _this_ group, I'd be liable to
get shot for restarting old discussions.

Regards,
Marc.

I can't really figure why you want to read Amiga disks on PC but I've been told
that reading Amiga disks on PC is virually impossible. PC reads sectors and the
Amiga reads entire tracks a time. Why don't you just use PC-formatted disks when
you want to port text of something like that. Reading and writes MS-DOS floppies
is implemented in OS 2.04 of the Amiga!

DON'T flog your Amiga, the Amiga emulator as found on the BBS' is FAKE.
Technically such an emulator could be possible but that means having an entire
Amiga on-board due to all the special hardware chips. (You're not thinking to
get 8 bits 4 channel sounds on a standard PC did you ?!?)

I need a way of doing this also. I have an Amiga 1000 (with 1.3) and
I am about to purchase a 386DX40 MS-DOS machine. I have lots of text,
WordPerfect, and graphics files that I would like to bring over to the
MS-DOS machine. I could use a null modem or use one of the Amiga
utilities to write to MS-DOS disks, but this would take a lot of time.
If I could read the AmigaDOS disks directly on the PC it would be
great. Can you do raw reads of disks under DOS? If so, I think I
could write a utility to read the AmigaDOS disks, if there is not one
out there already. It sounds like an interesting programming
exerciser. Any interest? (other that the above poster).

Though I know the Amiga disk structure thoroughly,
I don't know enough of the details about PC disk structure. However, I don't
believe that it's impossible. The Amiga hardware does read one track at a
time, which is done partly as a means of look-ahead. The main difference is
the number of sectors per track and the way of laying out directories, etc. The
Amiga doesn't use a FAT, for example. The PC doesn't use the same bitmaps, nor
does it use FHBs. I know that this is off the subject (sorry, I know that this
is c.o.m.m! Flog, flog :-)

I think my point is that though it shouldn't be impossible, with CrossDOS and
MSH out there, I don't see why anybody would want to go to the bother of
writing this type of program?

I have an A500 running 1.3, and port stuff back and forth all of the time.
Use MSH. It's shareware and reads/writes MS-DOS disks just fine. Just add the
filesystem handler and add to your mountlist, and you're off and running.
