HELP w/ MSDOS INTERLNK.EXE & INTERSVR.EXE ??

Have anybody using INTERLNK.EXE and INTERSVR.EXE from MSDOS 6.X ?
If you know any other shareware program that I can ftp from, please
refer to that site.
I am trying to connect two computers (laptop to desktop) with a regular printer
cable to LPT1. I load INTERSVR.EXE /LPT1 first and then I turn another
computer ON with DEVICE=C:\DOS\INTERLNK /LPT1 in the CONFIG.SYS.
The response for client computer was CONNECTION NOT ESTABLISHED.
WHY? WHY? Any suggestion would appreciate.

You cannot use a regular printer cable you must use a special cable to
connect them. See help to get the pin configuration and make or have made
the cable.

It works with a null modem cable, but sweet FA with a parallel cable.

I wonder what version of Interlink you guys are trying. The one I am using
works very well but it requires a COM port connection and does NOT at all
connect by a printer cable. Instaed it allows me to print on the remote
computers LPT.

The last poster might not be using MS-Dos INTERLNK, but a separate
program called INTERLINK (if such exists). Anyway, I think the
original poster did not read the help file and is trying to use a
straight cable. Interlnk works fine through the parallel port when
used with the proper cable. Type HELP INTERSVR to see how to wire it.
Both serial and parallel wiring is given in the help file. Parallel
interlnk is substantially faster than serial.

PS: I use the parallel port frequently, and with great success. I keep a separate
cable, labelled appropriately.

It works JUST FINE with a Parallel cable. The trick is you can't use a
"standard" parallel PRINTER cable.
I got a cable specifically built for INTERLNK Parallel use at the local
computer "toy" store (in my case, either Computer City or COMPusa). I don't
remember the exact price, but it *was* under $10. Undoubtedly somebody has the
specs for the cable. But for the price, building *my* own certainly wasn't
worth it.
The parallel link beats the hell out of the serial one. I can use the parallel
link to backup my laptop to my desktop's tape drive. I *think* I could do it
with the serial link, but I travel frequently, and need to have the backup done
before the weekend is over! 8^)

change in the CONFIG.SYS in the laptop. Type interlnk on the labtop and type
intersvr on the computer the screen on the computer will show you what is what
drive. Then just treat the E: or F: drive like a hard drive. I recommend you
buy a parallel cable and disconnet the printer and use the parallel port with
no options in the interlnk statements.
