Hi,

Can someone tell me if my dos (version 6.2) PC can communicate with my windows
98 PC ? Can direct cable connection and interlink communicate (by means of
LPT1) together ? Please explain !
If not, can I communicate between these PC's with some other software (let me
know the URL)

Thankz Shadow ;-)

Hi there,

Yes, can be done. Have done it many times, mostly to back up another
machine before I start working on it to a spare drive on mine.

You'll need a null modem cable, an ordinary parallel cable for parallel
port connection won't do. Could be done by serial port connection too, but
parallel is four times as fast. Most good stores carry null modem cables,
there are some mail order sources if you need them.

You'll also need two DOS commands: INTERSVR.exe and INTERLNK.exe.

The Interlnk.exe command is a device driver and must be installed in the
CONFIG.sys file of the the client(that's the machine which controls
communications): Device= drive:\path\INTERLNK.exe Add the switches
/noprinter if you don't want to redirect printers and /noscan to keep
the device driver from trying to set up a connection when you boot up.

Establish the connection to the server( the passive machine in the hook up)
when you're ready by issuing the command INTERLNK from a DOS prompt.

Install the INTERSVR.exe command in the DOS directory of the server and
when you're ready, issue the command Intersvr from the DOS prompt of the
server before you issue the Interlnk command from the client machine.

The whole thing will only work in DOS or, on a windows machine, from the
Dos prompt, or better, in DOS mode.

Avoid using these DOS commands: CHKDSK DEFRAG DEBUG DISKCOMP FDISK FORMAT
MIRROR SCANDISK SYS UNDELETE UNFORMAT

Any questions, ask by email, I don't always scan for posted messages.

Have a happy...

Karl

hhmm.. i'm following this thread, bc i have a 386sx that steadfastly
refuses to communicate via interlink,
it says i have a 2Gig drive on the sx!! ;-)

it also gives lots of 1 meg files... i've tried parallel, serial,
limiting the serial to 9600 baud, etc.

i'm really more curious than p/o'd at this point, i've done my transfers
via Kermit now with aplomb..
