Hi,

I am having a problem using expanded memory on my Windows 98 computer.
I want to run a game that requires expanded memory - when I install
it, it won't run because it says "You must use your expanded memory
manager to play the game."

So I tried to fix this, but when I restart the computer, I get an
error message that says "Expanded memory services unavailable." I
believe that the problem lies in the Emm386 line of my config.sys, but
I am not sure. Originally, it said

"Device=C:\Windows\Emm386.exe NOEMS"

and I read to delete NOEMS and replace it with RAM, so I did, but it
didn't help. Then I read a message in a forum that said to change it
to

"DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE i=e000-efff (m9 or frame=e000) RAM"

so I did, but now when I restart the computer it starts running
expanded memory but then says "Invalid parameter specified." I don't
know how to fix that. What is the parameter it is referring to? What
can I do?

Any suggestions would be mightily appreciated!
Thank you!

Try this DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE RAM. Make sure you have the
emm386.exe.
I would suggest that you install Msdos 6.22 and run the program from it.

Hi Joseph, thanks for the suggestions!

I've already tried putting RAM at the end, it doesn't work.

How would I go about installing Msdos 6.22? I've tried to run it with
the DOS program that's on my computer, but I don't know how to tell
which it is.

If you have Windows 95 or 98, it is MSDOS version 7.

Try using System commander or boot magic from Partition magic.
To install Msdos 6.22, I suggest you insert disk1 of msdos 6.22 in the
floppy drive
and boot up your system. Then follow the instruction being displayed.
You will be asked
to insert disk2 then disk3 and is finish. If your fat is fat32 then you
can,t.
