Recently I received an unexpected caution dialog box informing me that my
Email would not be correctly timestamped and that I should add a line in
autoexec.bat to coorect the problem. The example given was "TZ=EST5EDT".
This was the day after daylight savings time came into effect and I had not
yet reset the internal clock in my computer. I know that TZ means timezone
and that EST and EDT are Eastern Standard Time and Eastern Daylight Savings
Time (or something like that) but I don't know about the 5; nor do I
undertand what this command actually does to rectify the clock error. I
checked all the resources I could get my hands on and this seems
undocumented - any ideas?

5 is the difference in hours of edt and gmt (grenwich mean time)
thus mine is set tz=cst6cdt - hope that helps !!

The line in ur autoexec.bat file must read:

First: the "5" is the number of hours offset from Coordinated Universal
Time.

Second: you sure that command didn't have "SET " on the front?

Third: some program, probably part of the email package, is looking
at this parameter to make appropriate adjustments.
