Does anyone have a batch file (or preferably a 4dos btm file) that will do a
dir listing for only those files that have today's date? Better yet, for files
created after (or before, depending upon a switch) a specified date?

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Regards, - Jhinuk.

There is a great utility called NEW27.ZIP that I use. You might want
to check archie for it. If you can't find it, holler back at me.

Well, not exaclty a `dir' listing, but you can obtain a *very* flexible
list of files with the `stuff' program (originally a companion of `zoo').
It has switches for `modified less or more than n days ago', and for
`newer' and/or `older' than this file... If you are really serious, you
can even find the sources for `stuff' and work from there.

To be found at Simtel20 or mirror in <msdos.zoo>stuff*.arc (why not .zoo,
I wonder?).

Good luck,

Ever tried

dir | grep 03/27/92

where 03/27/92 is the actual date and grep maybe from Turbo C
or equivalent?

If you use 4DOS, I think they provide an example, on disk, of a
command alias which will allow you to do such a thing. I used to
use it, until I discovered 'dir/ot', which orders the directory
listing by time. This might work in DOS 5.0 also, but I'm not sure.

In PC DOS 3.3 (and no doubt all other flavours) you can use FIND as a filter
to DIR thus:

DIR | FIND "date in correct format"

So, to find files created 14-05-92 (the format can be found by just using plain
DIR):

DIR | FIND "14-05-92"

If you use the /V switch, you can locate all files created on any date BUT the
date you give - DIR | FIND /V "14-05-92" will list all files created on any date
but 14-05-92.

Pipe out the resulting list to SORT and you can arrange the list even by file
extension if you wish.
