Hi! I have the DOS version of Stacker installed on a Win98 mini-tower for the purpose of compressing a ZIP100 disk for networking to a DOS laptop. Now, I have an issue with the disk reporting a Disk Full message. When I write to the disk, I get a General Failure from DOS. I press F for Fail and get a Disk Full message. The disk couldn't possibly be full. :/ I tried copying the disk contents to a hard drive, removing the Stacker volume, recreating the volume, then coping the files back. The first time I did this, it worked. The last time I did this, I got the same problem. Is this a known bug in Stacker? How do I fix it?

I cannot help on your specific issues, except to say that you MUST use
only the very latest release(s) of Stacker.

Stacker was a super product, and was extremely popular, but it had a few
major, elusive, show-stopper, bugs for most of its life - though they
were eventually fixed.

Mike, I thank you for your input. Now, where online can I find the latest release of Stacker?

I have JAM, but it doesn't seem to work on Win98's DOS. :( I use DriveSpace in Windows mode but don't want to use it in DOS mode, as I want to use QEMM for DOS, and QEMM is incompatible with DriveSpace 3 for DOS.

I Googled online for Stacker Disk Compression and found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_compression. It gives me a set of programs from which to choose. I'm going to try them out to see which is best for my needs. :)

I found XtraDrive 1.10 and plan to try it out on my Win98 system the next time I go to my mother's house. :)

I've no recollection now about the version codes, nor where you might
find them. I'll search through some ancient stuff here, in case I find
and info.

I don't recall JAM. I always thought that Stacker was the best
(notwithstanding!).

Sounds like you're making good progress... (I also don't recall
XtraDrive - those neurons again!).

Uhh...XtraDrive seems to need some special hardware. :( Back to Stacker. Is there another way to fix the original issue? Is there a version of Stacker later than 4? If so, where can I find it? Google didn't give me it. :(

I just found ZipMagic at http://zipmagic.co/. Does it support Win98?

Never mind. It doesn't. :(

Uhh... I'm still looking for a solution to my problem with the Disk Full error in Stacker. :(
