With the web contentiously requiring SSL for practically everything
these days it might be worth having an updated OpenSSL port for DJGPP.
Is anyone out there maintaining it? What's the last known compiled
version that is confirmed working?

DJGPP repository have OpenSSL package.
You can also look at Links web browser what version/package they use, it works well under DOS
