I have made a web page of DeskView/X software ports and other material.
The URL is at:

http://www.best.com/~darknerd/realmspace/dos_dvx.htm

Also, if you find any good links about DeskView/X, feel free to email
me, and I'll add the material to my web page.

Just looked at your web page. I think it's a great idea. You mention
that DV can multitask dos and Windows 3.1 apps. What Windows 3.1 apps can
DV use? I use it for Dos apps, but I haven't found a windows app yet I
can use with it. I also have yet to find a DV specific program that the
manuel keeps talking about.

The other DV/X site is DESQview/X
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~bmm/dvx.html

BTW, I see you've advertised your site around (someone posted in
fido also). It's pretty good and a link has been added to the
DOS Internet site at Agate.

DV/X won't run individual Windows apps (IIRC). It runs Windows itself
in its own window. DV also.
It'll run Windows in real or standard mode I think but not enhanced.

DVX just runs Windows 3.1, I believe. In Windows you CAN ONLY RUN
standard
and real modes. (I do not actually own the product, so I cannot test
this myself, but I
did see a demo of this)

The above situation exist because Windows uses it's own DMPI server.
DVX uses it's own
DMPI server. There is a program called WINX with a /q parameter that
can get around this.
Also, there is another a X/Windows driver needed. Add this for DVX 2.6
and higher:

[windows]
load=C:\DVX\xwinmon.exe

A question below...

So this will only work with DVX and not plain DV?

Not so, Win 3.1 can be run in standard mode inside DV. DV comes with
loaders for Win 3.1.

Wfwg can can also be run in standard mode if you know the magic switch:

win /d:t

This puts wfwg into troubleshooting (i.e. standard) mode.

Note that any programs that require Windows in enhanced mode will not run
under these circumstances.
