I have one final question, and I am hoping that anybody who is running
WIN3.11 (standard mode, of course) under DV/X will be able to help.
DV/X offers two ways to run WIN3.x: in a normal window (the windows 3
direct option); or - just above that on the menu - in an X-window.
Running it in a normal winodw I am able to access all my DOS programs
- but only, of course, full-screen (to run them in a DOS window I
would need to be able to run Windows in enhanced mode - an
impossibility under DV or DV/X).
But when I run WIN3.11 in the X-window I cannot run any DOS options at
all - although it runs windows applications, including some interenet
browsers, such as Opera, perfectly. Instead, when I try to load a DOS
program, I get the message:
"Standard-mode switcher is not running. Cannot start application."
Is this a limitation (a "feature" <g>) of the X-Windows implementation
of WIN3.11, or do I have to make some sort of adjustment to the pif?
Derek
What's _IN_ the DVP??
I suspect you're running DOSX but you must run WIN.COM /S because the
switcher is loaded by WIN.COM but not by DOSX

When I try to start Windows for Work Group v3.11 in DV, Windows states it
can't run in real and standard mode. I wonder if I need to install win
v3.1 to run under DV.

I've not changed the winx.dvp much except to increase the max.
expanded memory size to 16320. Here are the main details:
Standard Option screen:
Program name: MS Windows 3 (X Window)
Memory size: 350
DOS command: c:\dvx\winx.exe
Directory: c:\windows
Options:
Writes direct to the screen; displays graphics info; virtualize text;
display in a dos window; use scalable fonts [NONE checked]
uses own colors, serial ports 1&2; math processor; allows close window
command [ALL checked]
Close on exit: Auto.
Advanced Options screen:
System memory: 0
Max program memory size: 800
Max. expanded memory size: 16320
Text pages: 1
Graphics pages: 0
Script name: winx.dxs [I can't find this]
Windows position: usual one
Wait for ewindow to open [checked]
Protection level: 0
Keyboard conflict: 0
X keyboard behavior: 0
> I suspect you're running DOSX
Does winx.exe load dosx, then, and not win.com /s?
I can see your reasoning, but I'm not sure how I could achieve this,
as there seems to be no place to put a win.com /s command without
having to eject the winx.exe one.
Or am I hopelessly confused about this (be kind <g>). Everything is
probably explained in Chapter 3 of the manual, but I don't have it...
Derek
No. You need to start it as WIN /D:T (If memory serves).
I seem to remember that there is also a DOSX or similar that starts
WfWg in standard mode.
WIN /?
will show you the correct switch if it isn't /D:T
