You need Windows98 Second Edition. You may also need to install usb
drivers that came with the usb hub.

Since you were using the drive in XP, is it formatted as NTFS? Windows 98
can't read NTFS, so it won't show up with a drive letter. It will bring up
the "unplug or eject" icon near the clock, however. This is exactly how my
NTFS formatted firewire drive behaves in win98.
There are 2 things you can do...
There is a third party driver for reading NTFS in windows 9x, I think it is
called NTFSDOS or similar. The free version does not allow you to save data
to the drive.
The other thing you can do is fdisk and format the drive in 98 so that it
will become fat32, but this will destroy the data that's on the drive.
