Hi there,

Does anyone know why Outlook Express is slow, annoyingly, while closing?

I am using win98 and had a desktop icon on my taskbar, which was real
handy, click it and desk top reappeared from any window, but am unable
to get it back after removing it.
When I try I get a series of buttons on the taskbar representing the
contents of the desktop not an icon as previously
Anyone know how the answer ?
TIA
Robert

The Show Desktop Shortcut on the quicklaunch bar is not a normal shortcut.
Instead it is a Windows Explorer Command. To restore it you need to create
a text file called Show Desktop.scf.
In it you should write the following (and nothing else):

[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop

Then simply right drag this file onto your quicklaunch bar and select move.
That's all there is to it. Oh, and make sure that if you use notepad when
you save you select "*.* (all file types)" in the file type bar, or else the
file will be saved as Show Desktop.scf.txt!!!!!

It's compressing, archiving, and removing all of the headers and messages
that you've downloaded, which if you subscribe to a lot of newgroups or
download a lot of pictures, could take quite a while. You can always use
the "Cancel" button to stop it, but does it really take *that* much time out
of your work?

If you really want to make sure that it goes as fast as it can, set under
Options/Advanced: "Delete Messages after being downloaded"-1 day, and "Don't
keep read messages." Be aware though that you won't be able to read any of
your old messages, but hey! You can't have everything you want in life.

I too have this problem with outlook - except I am not getting much
mail so I guess in my case it's not compressing, archiving, and

removing all of the headers and messages
that I've downloaded..?
