I've been having a nasty problem with my dial up lately, if anyone has
any ideas of how to fix it I would be very grateful!
The trouble is, I can't send messages with attachments, (possibly also
very big messages as well, I'm not sure if this problem is size related,
or attachment related), if I try, after the upload has been in progress
for a few seconds, I get the following error message:
"network error, connection reset by by peer", and my modem
disconnects itself! Apart from this, my dialup works fine, netscape is
fine, I can receive emails ok, and send (short) emails, posts etc.
I have tried trashing and re-installing dial-up networking etc, I have
replaced all the winsock dll's, replaced the modem drivers, even updated
the modem firmware, it is not a problem with my ISP, (my laptop works
fine), it is not a problem with a particular mail package either, I get
the same trouble with pegasus, netscape mail, outlook express, and even
hotmail.
Any ideas anyone please??

Your mileage may vary, but....
I had the exact problem you describe when I was using a cheap
modem in a place where the phone lines were very noisy.
If the cause of your problem is the same as mine was, you have two
choices: either get the phone lines fixed (in my case, this was
not possible because the problem was in the trunk lines
going in and out of the town I was in) or else buy a better modem.

You don't happen to live in an area with lots of thunderstorms?
I had a similar experience and it took Telcom to come and fix
it - some of their exchange equipment had been hit but wasn't
totally broken yet (only down to +- 9600 bps).

Lotsa Luck,

Gerd
