I'd like to upgrade my Win95 installation on my desktop machine to OSR2 (I just
the disk with a new notebook computer),but don't want to lose all my settings,
registry entries for installed programs etc. If I run the Win95 OSR install
will it wipe that stuff out or leave it intact? Has anyone tried this?

All I really want is the FAT32 support...

OSR2 setup will NOT work, it says you need an upgrade version to install
and no upgrade version exists. For the list of install tricks that save
all your settings and apps see http://www.compuclinic.com/osr2faq/

if you mean that you currently have win95a on your desktop and want to
go to win95b then the short answer is YOU CAN'T! These two versions use
different command versions. If you truely want win95b (and you have the
win95b cd) you'll have to jump through a few hoops...
1. You need a bootable disk with your cd-rom driver on it.
2. you'll have to install win95b cleanly (a formatted drive you'll use
as C:\)
3. All this meaning you won't have any old settings & you'll have to
re-install your software.

i know, this sucks. just thank little billy gates for your headache

OSR2 installs over old 95 and saves your settings just fine 99% of the
time. See http://www.compuclinic.com/osr2faq/
Did it myself Nov 1996.

Try renaming "win.com" to e.g., "win.cmm". The run "setup.exe" from the 95b
CD. Make sure that it installs into the same directory as your 95a.

Worked like a charm for me on one of my computers but refused to work on my
other one. It's worth a try.
