exit to DOS mode
"exit" DOS (Windows95 restarts)
Does anyone know of a more "automatic" way to restart Windows95 without
restarting the computer?
Thanks.

Very nice and simple trick: hold down the Shift key while presing Yes
after you check "Restart the computer."

Go to Shut Down, then Restart the Computer, but hold down the shift key
when you restart. Windows will reload without going through a full reboot.

I generally just hold the shift key down while I select "restart the
computer" from the shut-down menu. That bypasses the full CMOS-level
reboot. I believe you can also ctrl-alt-del and select "end task" on
explorer -- it won't let you do it, but it will reinitialize win95.
Sure. As far as I know, the feature is undocumented. I learned about it from
the win95-l list at list...@peach.ease.lsoft.com. Anyway, when you click
Start | Shut down, select the "Restart the computer" option and hold down the
Shift key as you click Yes. Wait until the shut down procedure actually
starts to release the Shift key; if you are using an Exit Windows sound, this
will be when the sound plays.
After that, you will get the message that Windows is restarting.
