Is it possible to set the windows desktop size to smaller resolutions than
640x480 ?
I use a nvidia graphics card and the PowerStrip tool to set the display size
to 400x234
pixel, but it seems as if windows restricts the minimum desktop height to
480 pixels :-(
Do you know any hint how to set the desktop height to smaller values than
480 ?
Any help would be appreciated :-))

You can make a screen size that is smaller, but all that will happen is that
the desktop appears in a window that is 640*480 pixels in size that you have
to scroll around in. That's the minimum size, it's built-in into the
operating system.
May I ask why you need this?

If I understand correctly, the screen resolution can be set to smaller
values than
640x480, but the desktop is always this size ?
After setting the nvidia driver to 400x234 pixels with powertool it seems
that
the output resolution is 400x480 (?) but not 400x234 :-((
What would be your recommendation to adjust the screen size ?

Is there a registry hack to change this ?

I am currently building an mp3 player for my car and want to use the
built-in
navigation system display for the user interface. The display is 400x234
resolution,
so I need to set the VGA output resolution to exactly this size.

Hi,
you'd do better to ask that here-

*Kleiner*? Davon habe ich noch nicht gehört. Aber falls es um Ultima7
mit seiner 320x240-Auflösung gehen sollte, gibt es eine Lösung:

Really for small displays in any modern application, you should use a
version of windows designed for such purposes like Windows CE.

Probably, you have to alter the INF-File of your graphiccard-driver
and/or the one for your monitor that tells Windows what values the
card or the monitor is able to use.

Bist du dir sicher, ob dein Monitor das kann? Versuchs vielleicht mal in der
Newsgroup: de.comp.hardware.graphik . Die müssten sich mit sowas auskennen.
Ich glaube nicht, dass das ein Windows Problem ist.

I use the tool PowerStrip which alters the INF file - but it seems as
if windows has a problem with desktop resulution < 640 x 480 ?

How did you accomplish this ?

I want to install a computer in my car and display the windows desktop on
the
car's built-in navigation system so that I can comfortably select mp3 and
divx
movies :-))
The navi display needs 400x234 resolution at 60Hz with sync-on-green - I
think
it's more easy to do this with real windows than with windows ce - and -
what is
more - my application is already programmed - using win2k ...
