Just thought I would add a second endorsement.
I came across Z Tree a week or so back and it was like hitting the
lottery. Symantec like idiots abandoned X Tree and Kim Henkle has done
a great job of getting an almost perfect clone Xtree into '95.
Full function shareware with a small nag screen on load and a 30 buck
price tag. Worth it.

Verrrry interesting! I never graduated past the DOS version and would
drop out of WIN 3.11 to use it on a regular occassion. This should be a
handy little gem for a command line freak like me. Thanks for the tip.

I have been using for over 4 months. There are some features from XTgold
missing but I do not miss them.
I find that Ztreewin and Explorer make a perfect combination.
I have stopped looking at any other file utility.

Not quite true - with Norton Navigator you can put explorer in "xtg mode" - and
even get your DOS keystrokes back. I used to love XTG, but hated the windows
version - this is the best of both worlds. Full w95 support too.

Humm.... why don't you use Norton Navigator in XTRee Gold mode?

Have you tried ZTWIN
It is a 32 bit program that simulates many of the functions of XTGOLD. In fact
the interface is similar to the dos version of xtgold 3.0.
cant remember the URL.

If I had known this option was available with Norton Navigator I would
have bought it. I have already paid my 30 dollars for Ztree Win
What is the cost of Norton Navigator?

If your were an XTGold v3.0 (DOS), you'll probably be more happier
with ZTree Win. I bought NN for Win95 (the upgrade version) and was
very disappointed. It slowed down my system and was not, in my
opinion, nearly as powerful as XTGold. I quickley removed it. I have
tried it again with a patch from Symantec but again, I removed it. I
WILL buy the ZTree Win as soon as it gets the wrinkles out. I suspect
that will be soon.

You can have my copy, complete with orignal disks and manual for
$20.00 plus shipping.

From another died-in-the-wool XTree Gold DOS user (keyboard mode), I
also have not given up on it even in Win95. Before I found ZTree, I
stumbled onto Windows Commander 3.0, http://www.ghisler.com It has
come very close to finally pulling me over to a decent Windoze based
file manager. It has a dual-window type interface and supports .zip
and all the other compression modes. It handles a .zip file just like
another directory. Just open the file and drag it's contents to where
ever you want them.
It solved a big dilemma I had when I added a new 2.5 Gig HD. After
getting the new drive all partitioned and formatted in the "slave"
position, I just dragged all the stuff from the C:\ dive onto it,
swapped "master / slave" positions, corrected CMOS, made the new drive
active, and Wham!, it booted up and I didn't have to change a thing.
It even picked up the "ton" of RSH files that Win95 makes without a
hitch.
Windows Commander is what XTree for Windows should have been a long
time ago. Have a look at it. It's worth the try.
