I have a problem with program groups disappearing from my program
manager. When I boot up the computer and Windows 3.1 comes on, a
warning comes up that says "Program Group "x" damaged or corrupted.
Recreate group". So then I recreate the group, but the same thing
happens the next time I boot up the computer (with the same group).
Is there a problem with the progman.ini? What can I do about it?

Thanks in advance,

Karen K.

Load the PROGMAN.INI into an editor and check the [Groups] section. It
must read like:
Group1=MAIN.GRP
Group2=ACCESSOR.GRP
...

Repair garbeled and invalid entries, save the file and retry.

>>>Karen,this doesn't exactly solve your problem (I have it and
don't know what the cause is, either), but it is a workaround that I
use:
Once all of your groups are restored, make a zipfile of all the
.grp files...I call mine back_grp.zip;

If one of your groups goes bad, open up the zipfile and extract
the damaged group file....then, from the Program Manager window, choose
_F_ile, _N_ew, Program Group; tab down to the second box and type in
the name of the group file...

As I said, I don't know what causes your problem, but the steps
I've outlined will get you back on your feet quickly..
