I want to change the icon of a folder on a floppy disk to whatever I
want. I know how to do this from the hard drive, but when I try it
from the floppy, the Customize tab doesn't display. I can copy the
folder to the deskop, set the icon, then copy the folder back to the
floppy, but I don't want the problem. BTW, the systems are WinXP and
WinVista, and I also want to change file class icons on those systems.

Programatically it's done via the desktop.ini file and the system
attribute on the folder.

I can't open the file. I tried in Notepad and typed in the filename
in the folder and got a file not found error. :( BTW, this is only for
pleasure.

Have you created it yet?
They don't exist by default unless a folder has already been "customised".
There is nothing special about it.

Ohh...some toys I picked up while time-travelling. ;) Really, I use
them for work on older computers and on restricted-rights public
computers. Maybe I'll try to do it on a flash drive and get back to
you, but don't count on it.

I just want to customize folders on my floppies by assigning icons to
them. I've been able to customize folders on the hard drives of said
computers but not on the flopppies. I think it's possible because it
happened before.

We have a time warp apparently..

I've already suggested creating the desktop.ini file.
This can be created programmatically or just copied from a "local"
folder that you've already customised.

Just copy the file. Got it! Thank you. :)

I meant the folder, but oh well

You may not get the tab, but you will need to set the system attribute
on the folder before Explorer even looks at it.
(The Desktop.ini system is well documented in MSDN and can be foung with
a bit of research)

Thak you, but I wanted to decorate folders on a floppy, not the floppy
itself. BTW, what if I wanted to change the disk icon rather than the
drive? Maybe have a Mario icon on a game floppy or a picture/art icon
on a flash or floppy drive containing wallpaper and stuff?
