The VPN system I use includes a software firewall that I must disable to
work on my home LAN. Manually toggling this thing between on/off depending
on my mode of working is a pain. Does anyone know if it is possible to
programmatically configure the "Components" for a particular network
connection.

The things I'm interested in controlling are the services that show up on
the General tab of a network connection properties (assuming you are using
W2K).

Other services listed here include: Client for Microsoft Networks, Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) etc.

Many thanks.

Chris.

A lot of this stuff is stored in the Registry and plain text, though some is
in binary (and hard to know what needs to be changed).
Look under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software for relevent network software names.

Thanks. I used REGMON from SysInternals and saw a whole bunch of registry
activity, but piecing the relevant bits and pieces together looks quite
daunting. Not to mention that getting it wrong will probably hose the OS
:-(

Chris.
